Introduction and Brief History of the Niagara Falls

The Niagra falls is one of the greatest falls of the world with a massive volume of water flowing through it. When the Falls is during peak flow the amount of water going through it is equal to 150,000 U.S. Gallons or 567,811 Liters per second.

The history of the Niagara waterfall starts during the last ice age around 18,000 years ago. After the ice melted to form the great lakes, there were two of the 4 massive Great Lakes, the Lake Eerie and further down Lake Ontario and the Niagra river connected both of them.

The niagarafalls is not one specific waterfall but the combination of three waterfalls. They are the Horseshoe Falls that is on the border between US and Canada, the American Falls and the smaller Bridal Falls both of which are located entirely in the USA.

The height at the highest point of the falls is  176 feet or 53.6 meters. However, the water from the niagara waterfall makes a smaller jump as there are rocks at the base which reduces the height to around 70 feet or 21.3 meters.

The Falls attract nearly 30 million visitors from across the world every year and is one of the most breathtaking natural creations to grace Mother Earth. While it has found its place in many history and geography books for its immense significance, none of them can describe the beauty and magnificence of admiring it in person.
